My date with the Prime…
(Note: This is a late post. I was supposed to post this Saturday night but was too lazy tired to write. Sorry na po, please!)
Some two years back, I did an entry about going back to my liberating habit, watching movies alone that is! Last Saturday, I did the same thing. I decided to watch Transformers alone. Not that I don’t have anyone to watch it with, but I would again want to experience my movie-watching independence. Besides, I don’t want to hear a companion murmur some comments while watching the film.
So Saturday morning, I went to the nearest mall. I planned to watch the first screening so I went early… but I was too early that the mall was still closed. I had to wait some 15 minutes outside. Good thing, my iTouch kept me company.
I rushed to the cinema area as soon as the mall opened. But hey, I didn’t look like a typical and hysterical movie fan that you see on TV. I did it with full grace and poise. LOL.
Upon seeing the screening time, I learned that I was too early… again! Earliest screening was scheduled an hour later so I needed to kill time. There’s nothing left for me to do was to window shop. But I failed! I ended up shopping for a jacket at Mango as the store was on sale. Hmmmm… I really need to control my impulse buying. LOL.
So, the time has come for me to see the movie I was waiting for. I took with me 16 oz. of Dairy Queen’s Rocky Road. I have this habit of eating ice cream (instead of popcorn) inside the movie house.
It wasn’t as crowded as I expected and I’ve got myself a nicely-located seat.
And so, my date with the Prime started at 11:15 a.m.
As always, I tried to appreciate the movie as plainly as possible. I don’t normally over-analyze movies like this knowing its being sci-fi in nature and was adapted from the cartoons version. Besides, I went there to enjoy and relax. Just like in the first installment, I was still freaking amazed with the special effects. I was again caught in awe whenever I see those hot freaking vehicles transform into nicely built robots in mid air. Just freaking awesome!
For me, the movie was great. The plot brought in some new characters. BUT, I realized that the subtitle was too plain literal: Revenge of The Fallen… they have this character named The Fallen. Another decepticon. And he is higher in command than Megatron. All along I thought, Megatron was the prime leader of those villain robots. I think I should review the cartoons version over at youtube. LOL.
I got a bit sad when the plot transpired to Optimus Prime’s death. I was expecting though that Sam could bring him back to life. Well, it’s too plain obvious that the Autobots wouldn’t be complete without the Prime. Oh, I will share with you one secret: crush ko si Optimus Prime! LOL. Well, I really like his character. Very strong and manly. I guess, if he were a real man, he would be darn hot and handsome. 😛

I have to agree to some blogger friends who posted an entry about Transformers 2, Megan Fox (Mikaila) was freaking beautiful in the film… too beautiful that she distracts attracts all movie-goers to look at her instead at those freaking robots. And, as I have commented on Kikay’s post, I really got attached to Megan’s white pants. She sure knows how to maintain a nice clean pair of white pants despite the bombing around and those endless running through the dessert with Shia Lebeouf. (Please forgive me for this side comment.)

And oh, the film made me realize that US Military Men are sooooooo freaking hot and delicious. I think I can marry any one of them. LOL.
I really liked the film. I guess I will watch it again this weekend. Hopefully at IMAX or Gateway. 😛

Please don’t make me call you, ok?!
My apologies for not posting anything lately. Maybe I’m also experiencing the so-called “writer’s block”. But since I don’t consider myself that much of a writer, I guess I am just having some pretty boring days lately and there ain’t much “bloggable” incidents happened to me in the past few days. Later in the afternoon today though, I was able to experience one “bloggable” experience. And so, I’m blogging it out. (Parang redundant na masyado yung word na blog, hehehe!)
My boss’s secretary handed me an envelop a little past 4 pm. I got surprised to receive a credit card billing statement at work since all my personal correspondences are sent to my home address. Well, I just don’t want any of my personal things handled at work. Besides, my home address is a more permanent thing for me than my office address 🙂
When I opened the envelope, I saw that I was billed for the annual fee of that credit card. And so, I immediately grabbed my phone and dialed the credit card company’s hotline number.
At first, I had trouble connecting and so I tried again. On the second time, I was able to speak to one of their customer service representatives. And here is the course of our conversation:
CSR: Thank you for calling _____________. How may I help you?
Moi: Hi Miss! I have a case here. I received a call from your bank and offered me a credit card. I instantly refused but a week later I received the card via mail. I didn’t activate it and now I am being charged with a P1,500-annual fee?
CSR: I’m sorry for that error, Ma’am! Can I first get your card number?
– Other details were asked, too. Credit card inquiry protocol, y’know. –
CSR: Thank you for those information, Ma’am. Can I put you now on hold for a minute or two so I could check on your account?
Moi: Ok, sure.
After a minute or so, I heard the CSR’s voice again,
CSR: Sorry to keep you waiting, Ma’am. It says here that you are being billed with the annual fee.
Moi: (Getting a little pissed off) That’s the reason for my call. Why am I being charged with that?
CSR: Ma’am, if you want you can pay this over 6 months.
Moi: (Really trying not to get pissed off) Miss, I told you I didn’t apply for the card. Why am I being charged for that? Can you just please cancel the card?
CSR: Ma’am, if we offer you waiver, will you instead keep the card? But it will still be subject for approval. And you can call us back next week to know if it gets approved.
Moi: (Got pissed off) Miss, uulitin ko lang at lilinawin ko for you. Your company called me a month ago, offered me a credit card and I said NO. After a week, I was surprised to receive the card. I didn’t activate it. It is not my first time to get a card. A card holder can’t be charged unless the card is activated. So why did you charge me for an inactive card?
CSR: Ma’am, your card is already activated.
Moi: (Got more pissed off) I told you, I didn’t ask to have it activated. Are you trying to tell me your company sends activated cards! That’s wrong! For all you know, anybody can use that card . Can you put that complaint on record?!
CSR: Sorry for that, Ma’am. Yes, I will take note of that.
Moi: Can you just cancel my card?!?! And please make sure that the charges are reverted. I don’t want to get negative records for this.
CSR: Ma’am, don’t you really want to keep and use the card for future emergency use?
Moi: (Got pissed off again) Miss, cancel mo na lang. Nagupit ko na yung card nyo the moment I received it. Again, make sure the fee is cancelled as well.
CSR: Ok, Ma’am. Would that be all?
Moi: Yes. Thank you.
CSR: Thank you, Ma’am.
This call really got into my nerve this afternoon. I know, the CSR was just doing her job to keep their clients. But I really got pissed off with that freaking bank slash credit card company that sent me a something I didn’t apply for and immediately refused. Well, I don’t anymore need any new credit card. I just wanted the card cancelled and the fee reverted asap. You see, I’m really very careful when it comes to financial records. I have been in the lending business in all my professional life and I freaking know how it works. Of course, I wouldn’t pay for that annual fee. And if I don’t have it reverted, my credit record will be doomed for quite some time and it won’t allow me to avail of more important financial assistance (i.e. housing loan, car loan, personal loan, etc.) should I need one.
Sorry for venting this one out. I hope you also take precautions should things like this happen to you.
On remembering dads…
Today, the entire world is commemorating this special day for very special persons in our lives. I have always wondered how days like Father’s Day got officially celebrated in the first place. As usual, I googled my way to know who thought of this brilliant idea to allot a special day for all the dads in the world. And here is what I’ve found from wikipedia.com:
Father’s Day is a day honoring fathers, celebrated on the third Sunday of June in 52 of the world’s countries and on other days elsewhere. It complements Mother’s Day, the celebration honoring mothers.
Father’s Day is a celebration inaugurated in the early twentieth century to complement Mother’s Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting, and to honour and commemorate fathers and forefathers. Father’s Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving, special dinners to fathers, and family-oriented activities.
The first observance of Father’s Day is believed to have been held on July 5, 1908 in a church located in Fairmont, West Virginia, by Dr. Robert Webb of West Virginia at the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South of Fairmont. The church still exists under the name of Central United Methodist Church.
Sonora Smart Dodd of Washington thought independently of the holiday one Sunday in 1909 while listening to a Mother’s Day sermon at the Central Methodist Episcopal Church at Spokane, and she arranged a tribute for her father on June 19, 1910. She was the first to solicit the idea of having an official Father’s Day observance to honor all fathers.
I seldom mention my dad in my entries as he is no longer with me and my mom. But my dad’s memories continue to linger on inside my heart every single day. In my hundreds of blog entries, I have only done 2 entries for my late dad: one was a birthday entry in 2007 and the other one was a death anniversary entry in 2008. To help you from back-reading, I decided to re-post my 2007 entry and share to you the first-ever post I have ever written for Tatay.
Most of you might have noticed that I rarely talk about my father. My Mom has been mentioned a million times already in most of my blogs while my Dad was mentioned only once. The question “Where is your dad?” only arises during the early stages of friendship, initial conversations or in the course of job interviews. And once I briefly answered that question, I would never hear anyone ask about my Dad anymore. I completely understand though since it’s hard to talk about someone who’s been gone for almost 2 decades now.
Just a brief backgrounder, Tatay, as I fondly call my father, died in 1990… oh well, he was killed in the morning of December 26, 1990. I can almost see your faces in total shock wanting to know why and how Tatay was murdered. Well, that’s a long story and I don’t want to write down the details of that unpleasant incident. Besides, we’ve already claimed justice to the case. (Tama ba ang pagkaka-English ko dito? Hehehe!)
I am a self-proclaimed “Daddy’s Girl”. Mommy used to tell me that Tatay seriously engaged himself in a novena devotion to St. Jude when I was still in her womb. Tatay ardently prayed for a baby girl… well, little did he know that his baby girl grew up to be a macho girl! Hahaha!
Tatay and I were extremely close. We shared lots of fun moments together. We were the best of friends before I became real close to my Mom (I think I mentioned this in one of my blogs already). Tatay was my official buddy, my fulltime barkada. We liked hanging out together… from having a wholeday Ramon-Revilla-or-FPJ TV marathon to doing our regular going-to-relatives-in-Marikina Sundays. I still remember the days when I would always trick Tatay and pretend to be sleeping on our way home from Marikina. He would then carry my as we traced the Coca-cola Plant passage in Otis… pero alam naman pala ni Tatay na nagtutulug-tulugan lang ako! Hehehe! Those were my fondest moments with Tatay.
When I was 9, Tatay got a bit worried of the new state that I was about to enter. Together with Mommy, they talked to me about the yucky love stuff. They both encouraged me to be candid about any feelings or emotions I might have for the opposite sex. In short, Tatay and Mommy wanted the three of us to have an open communication line on things about love and relationships. Well, too bad, Tatay was not able to experience it as I was only 14 years old when he died... wala pa yata akong kamuang-muang sa pag-ibig at that time! I have some crushes on the side though! Hehehe!
My highschool moments with Tatay were both fun and ‘nakakaasar’. I studied in Special Science along Nagtahan in Sampaloc. Whenever Tatay would offer me ‘hatid’ to school, I would always frown and hope that he’s not serious. Tatay’s ‘hatid’ offer meant that we’ll have our walk-at-Nagtahan-Bridge bonding moments. So, ‘pag dating ko sa school eh pawis-pawisan na ang beauty ko! And what’s even worse is some classmates would tell me, “Uy, nakita ko kayo ng Tatay mo kanina, naglalakad sa Nagtahan.” Aaarrrggghhhh! Kaasar di bah?!
I’m glad though that Tatay was not a strict father in terms of school activities. Tatay would always allow me to attend those late night parties so I never missed a single party in school. The downside though is that he set a curfew time of nine o’clock. Imagine that?! Eh kasagsagan pa lang ng sayawan nun, noh?! And here’s the funny part, Tatay would always pick me up at exactly 9pm. Yung tipong I’m in the middle of a ’sweet’ dance, and there goes the PA saying, “Calling Ms. Francia Argamaso, your father is waiting at the lobby!” Three times pang uulit-ulitin yan, hah?! Each and every party I went to eh ganyan ang scenario! Aaaarrrrggggghhhhh uli! Kaasar talaga!
Those were some of my ‘kaasar’ moments with Tatay. But now, those ‘kaasar’ moments simply make me smile.
Despite Tatay’s machismo image and strong dispositions, I felt he was a bit insecure. He never had a regular employment after the construction company he worked for closed down in 1987. He then worked on an irregular and per project basis. There were lots of low moments in our family life but I saw him tried his very best to provide for us. Together with Mommy’s dressmaking stint and my aunt’s (actually my cousin’s) financial support, we were able to get through a very simple life. I remember this one time when we had to meet up with my aunt at So-en’s Store along Araneta Avenue in QC for some Christmas shopping. He told me, “Dito na lang tayo sa labas. Nakakahiya eh! Wala naman tayong pera para pumasok dyan!” I wanted to reply back, “Tay, okay lang yun! Wala naman pong bayad ang umupo sa loob at mag-window shopping!” I was very young then, it didn’t occur to me that he was somehow insecure and ashamed of our status in life. And when I think about it now, I feel so sad for Tatay. But there was nothing I could do back then.
I also feel sad for this one thing that Tatay begged for us… an old refrigerator from his sister. He wasn’t able to get that old ref because that thing was replaced long after he died. So when I started working in 1995, the first thing I bought with my first Christmas paycheck was a refrigerator… a long-due gift for Tatay! Again, too bad, he wasn’t able to experience having one in the house.
I am still not as successful as other people I know. But I think, if Tatay is alive today, he would somehow be proud of what I have accomplished. I may have not fulfilled his dream of me being an international flight stewardess (I tried applying though but I’m a bit short on the height requirement) but I know deep in my heart, Tatay is darn proud of what I have become.
To Tatay, I thank you for everything. I know how you wanted to give us a better life, but for some valid reasons, you cannot just grab any opportunity that came your way. Mommy and I truly understood your dilemma. We love you for who you are. We may not have experienced being together for quite a long time, but those 14 years were more than enough to feel your love for me and Mommy. You are always in my prayers and I always ask God to continuously keep you in His loving arms. May the good Lord bless your soul. I truly miss and love you, ‘Tay!
And since digicam is not yet an in-thing during Tatay’s time, we don’t have much pics together. This is the only pic I have in my file:

I’d also want to extend my greetings to all the dads out there as well as to the dearest dads of my equally-single friends.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
Meikitomekiku
Just moments ago, I received an email from one of my choirmates. Nothing serious though. It’s one of those let’s-have-a-break-and-have-fun kind of emails. Maybe you have already received this one in the past. But what the heck, I want to share it with you.
The rule is so simple, just fill your name in Japanese (refer to table below) and send it to all of your friends to show how crazy your Jap name sounds and looks like.
Come on and let’s have fun!
A – ka
B – tu
C – mi
D – te
E – ku
F – lu
G – ji
H – ri
I – ki
J – zu
K – me
L – ta
M – rin
N – to
O – mo
P – no
Q – ke
R – shi
S – ari
T – chi
U – do
V – ru
W –mei
X – na
Y – fu
Z – zi
And when I tried mine, it resulted to Meikitomekiku. So just, call me Meiki for short. Amazing, it still sounds like Winkie… ngongo version lang! LOL.
How about you? What is your Japanese name?
EB Babes
June 12 was indeed a holiday for some bloggers, like me. Naaah… I did not participate in those Independence Day Celebrations as I had a more important thing to do… EYE BALL, that is!
But before anything else, let me start my story with the traditional introduction of the cast members:
- Rhona a.k.a. Kikayness of kofistains.blogspot.com
- Lovely of anakngpating.wordpress.com
- Joycee of joyciesh.com
- Liza a.k.a. Star of twistedcreampuff.wordpress.com
- Azul of bloociadow.wordpress.com
- Paulo… boylet ni Azul 😛
Well, call time was 3:30 p.m. at Jollibee, Alabang. I was suppose to meet Rhona, Joycee and Star there. But due to some unexplained reasons, we were able to see each other a little past 5 p.m. Yep, I waited for more than an hour. Good thing, FSM is nearby so I was able to kill time inside the mall and did a little shopping.
It was kinda weird for me at first to meet these three young ladies. (Young ladies talaga ang term ko. Kasi naman ako na ang pinaka-lola sa kanila, hehehe!) But since we all know each other in the blogosphere and have chatted at one point via YM, Facebook or SMS, I felt an unusual sense of closeness and connection. It’s as if I have been friends with them for a long time.
So, off we went to Lovely’s place, the Chateau Elysee Condominiums in Betterliving, Paranaque. The place was indeed grand and expensive-looking. Bonggang-bongga pala ang balay ni Lovely, hehehe!
I will now let the pictures tell the story of our EB:

Pictorial agad before dinner...

Ako naman ang photog 🙂

Eating time... KFC galore!

Azul and BF Pau
Dinner was short… humaba lang because of Rhona’s chika moments regarding her lovelife. Krrzzzt! Krrzzzzt! Ouch, darn lightning! What did I say wrong?! Oh, that lovelife thingie. LOL. Shhhh, hinaan ang pagbasa at baka marinig ni Rhona… wala po talaga syang lovelife. Kaya yung gustong mag-apply, submit na agad ng resume! Hehehe!
Joycee and I did not plan to swim, so the rest of the gang changed in their swimming attire. Lovely failed to inform us though that t-shirts are not allowed. However, she was able to charm the pool attendant to allow them to swim at around 9:30 p.m… which meant, the attendant only gave them 30-minute pool time 🙂
Since it was just 8.pm., we needed to kill time. So, we all went back doing the most important tasks: pictorial and chika galore…

At Lovely's workstation

Us all... by the poolside

Joycee's solo moment

Gandah ng clubhouse, divah?!

L to R: Star, Joycee, Lovely, Rhona & moi

Ayan, with Azul na!

Change location... stairs naman!

Tres Marias 😛

Why is Star down on the floor? LOL.

Swimming time!!!

Fridays with friends…
So, last Friday’s session was our first for this year.
I have always been confused why my friends prefer to hold those numerous Friday night karaoke slash drinking sessions in our house. Same time last year, we went out with some other friends. We had dinner at a seafood resto in Macapagal Avenue and moved to Stabucks in Harbour View. I then heard them, “Inom na lang tayo. Dun tayo kina Winkie!” Since, they are most welcome in our house, I immediately agreed.
Last Friday, while preparing the table for them, I told Gary, one of my closest HS buds, “Alam mo, kompyus ako sa nyo. Bakit ba type na type nyo dito sa haus eh siksikan naman tyo lagi sa liit? Tapos wala pa kaming parking.” He replied, “Eh kasi, feel na feel dito na welcome kami. Yung wala kyeme na welcome.” Well, he has a point there. They are indeed very much welcome in our house… and so as the rest of my friends.
I’ll give you a quick peek of our very humble poor-looking home and our siksikan galore moments during karaoke slash drinking sessions These were taken last Friday. Please pardon my haggard look 😛

With highschool buddies

The boys... and Galo

The girls...

Parang class picture lang...

Wacky shot daw... pacute lahat!

Weddings! Weddings! Weddings!
The month of June reminds me of 4 major things:
- Back-to-school season… which correlates to high traffic as public transport will once again be plagued by students going to and from the malls for their cutting classes escapades their respective schools.
- Ghie’s birthday… she is a close friend from HS and celebrates her special day every 2nd of June. Since the day I have known her, I never forgot to greet her on her special day. (Is this right, Ghie?)
- Storm season… need I explain more??? Just this morning, I arrived at work with a pair of uberly soaked pants.
- Weddings! Weddings! Weddings!
But have you ever thought why June is being correlated to weddings? Well, I googled my way to know its origin. And this is what I’ve got from hubpages.com:
According to ancient Druid legend, the gods and goddesses celebrate the coming of Spring with fertility rituals and mating during the fires of Beltane in May. Since it was unlucky to compete with these important deities, most couples planning a Spring wedding pushed out their celebrations to June, thus not angering the gods. Roman legend has it that Juno was the goddess of marriage so couples got married in June to honor her. Other legends mention that people took their annual bath in May, so in June were still relatively ‘fresh!’ Whatever the reason, June remains one of the most popular months to marry.
I have been interested in weddings since I can’t remember when. I guess it’s all but natural for young little girls to dream for a nice and grand wedding. I had the same dream when I was younger. I wanted to get married like a princess. Walking down a very long aisle. All eyes are on me… just me! All my guests – around 200 to 300 people – stare at me admiring, dreaming and wishing me a happily married life. But that’s not what I want now. I’m way past believing in happily-ever after kinda weddings.
When I grew a little older, I got invited to a lot of weddings… from small chapels to big churches, from simple restaurants to grand hotels, and from barrios to gardens. I have witnessed a variety of themes, motifs and gimmicks but I normally pay more attention to the couple and pray on that very day for that love of each other to last until eternity
My attachment to weddings grew more and more each passing year. I organized some for friends for gratis. And I even accommodated some as side jobs as a day coordinator and/or wedding singer reception programme host.
Some months ago, I received an email from a friend about Jay Contreras (from Kamikazee) and Sarah Abad (Kaye Abad’s sister). It was the first-ever celebrity black wedding here in Pinas and it was held in no other than Paco Park… also known as Paco Cemetery. Others find it creepy and morbid… but I think otherwise. There’s nothing wrong with black as motif for a wedding since black is known for simplicity and elegance. And Paco Park is one heck of the nicest venue for a quiet, small yet romantic wedding.

The Black Wedding (Jay and Sarah)
Last month, Ryan Agoncillo and Judy Ann Santos surprised the entire showbiz industry as well as the anticipating public with their unannounced wedding which was held in San Juan, Batangas. I have to say though that I salute the couple for pulling that off so successfully. I guess I wanted the same for my wedding (if and only if I will still get married). As I have mentioned so many times here in my blog, I wanted my big day celebrated near the beach… away from the press and paparazzis. LOL.

The Secret Wedding (Ryan and Judy Ann)
And just this morning, Umagang Kay Ganda featured the Star Wars-themed wedding of Tiger and Issa. It was my first time to see them on TV as they were not celebrities (I think!). But hey, this wedding is way beyond I have ever imagined. This is really one heck of a fun, cool, unique and creative wedding theme. So, I say kudos to the couple!

Victoria's Secret Maxi Dress
This will only cost my groom me $95. LOL.
So, no more fancy things for me. I just want it plain and simple. Besides, the most important part of a wedding is THE CEREMONY… God’s blessings on the union of 2 hearts with the promise of forever love.
Oh and guess when will I get married? On my groom’s birthday… the best birthday gift I could ever think to give my one great true love is myself… and the promise of my undying love from here til eternity. Hmp, corny!!! LOL. Actually, ang tunay na reason eh para pag wedding anniversary namin, 2-in1 na ang gift ko sa kanya. Hehehe!

Take up your Flag and Follow Me
Jesus boldly raises a tattered Philippines flag, poignant symbolism of the countless upheavals the country has been through from the Cry of Pugad Lawin in 1896 to the Independence Proclamation in Kawit, Cavite, in 1898, from the Fall of Bataan to the infamous Death March in 1942, from the anguish of 1983 to the euphoria of 1986, and then again in 2001. The pain and suffering of his people etched on the countenance of Jesus; but His stance is upright and His grip was firm. His love and mercy unite us, strengthen us from the shackles of fear, helplessness and hopelessness. But His face beckons; His eyes challenge me; the tough stance tells me there is no way to lose. “Take up your flag and follow me.”
It was not by accident that I was born a Filipino, and with Him as my supremo. We will definitely win this war. And the battle cry is not anger but love.
More Flash Mob Videos
Due to insistent public demand (actually, si Sandi lang naman ang nagrequest ng isa pa kaya I did this post), I researched some related videos in youtube and found 2 equally interesting videos. Others are rather uber scripted and somewhat corny while some are repetitive of other vidoes so I opted not to feature them here. I have to confess though that I still find the TSoM video in Belgium Train Station better.
(1) World biggest Freeze Flash Mob in Paris.
Concept created by Improv’Everywhere

(2) Food Court Musical
From http://www.ImprovEverywhere.com, 16 agents create a spontaneous musical in a food court in a Los Angeles mall. Using wireless microphones and the mall’s PA system, both their voices and the music was amplified throughout the food court. All cameras were hidden behind two-way mirrors and other concealed structures.
If were to witness these for real, I would think I’m in Twilight Zone. The Freeze Flash thing is really freaky while the Food Court Musical is fun and interesting.
Hope you enjoyed the vidz as much as I did! 🙂
