Ano sa tagalog ang orange?
Two days ago, I received that text message from a high school friend. I knew it was a serious question so I replied her with my answer, “Sa fruit, kahel!”

I was so sure with my answer. Nonetheless, I googled my way to check if that stored knowledge was right.
My lady friend texted me back, “Eh sa color?”
![]()
I sensed she’d ask me that. I got the answer ready and I replied her with, “According ke Mr. Google, pareho lang!”
I can feel her smiling while texting me back with, “Salamat! Ang galing mo talaga!”
Well, apparently, that was a serious question. Not some I-wanna-ruin-my-friend’s-day kind of questions that some people send to their friends.
I was still online. Browsed more sites about that Tagalog term until I landed to bncxe.org. It was sort of a forum. And it has a thread with the exact question: What is “orange” in tagalog? I read the contents and ended LMAO.
Here are some of the uber hilarious answers I read from that site:
-

P.S. To those of you who wished me to get well, maraming maraming salamat po! I feel a bit better now. Still kinda tired though.
Sick…
Pardon for not posting much lately. I was kinda busy last weekend… and now, I’m not feeling too well 😦

I will be with you once I’m perfectly ok.

Sya si Chris
I have been a bit busy doing a lot other things online for the past days nights. Hence, no new entries. LOL. One reason was youtube. I have been on youtube for the past couple of nights watching Chris, 100% American guy from New Jersey singing OPMs. Apparently, I came to know about him from Facebook as I’m a member of that group called Definitely Filipino (yata ah, I’m not so sure about the group’s name. LOL!). And sometime last week, they featured this guy. I started watching his videos from then on. So technically now, fan na nya ako! Hehehe!
I was really amazed and impressed how Chris spends too much time playing our local music and belting those famous Pinoy rock songs. I have to admit though that I myself don’t know some of those songs. Shame on me! LOL.
He goes by the handle Ako si Chris. I have added him to my FB list and he immediately accepted. He even left this note on my wall:
Hey Winkie! Thanks for the add and for helping me spread the word about an American from New Jersey rocking out in Tagalog. It’s OPM with an American Twist. I call it “jOePM”.
To give you a clearer idea what I am trying to tell here, ladies and gentlemen, sya si Chris:
That was his rendition of Salamat by The Dawn while here is his version of Ang Huling El Bimbo by Eraserheads:
And, my fave so far is his version of Narda by Kamikazee. I have this in my iTouch now 😛
Isn’t he amazing? I hope he sings the song “Manila”. I bet that one will also suit his voice.
For more of his jOePM songs, check out his youtube site.

I got de-virginized… and I’m proud about it!
I bet you are more than eager to read my post now because of that very catchy title. Well, to tell you the truth, the title is quite right… not on a naughty note though! LOL.
Earlier today, Mommy requested that we buy crabs from her friend who brings her seafood. Since I know that she loves seafoods a lot and would eat more that what she normally consume, I didn’t think twice on paying the old lady vendor. Besides, the bunch of crabs was only offered to us at P80.00 (less than $2). Quite cheap eh?!
Mommy wanted it cooked ala-dampa style, buttered crabs that is. Since I’m not a kitchen person, I don’t have any idea of how to cook that thing… or any dish for that matter. So what I did was browsed my way to the internet to check on how to cook buttered crabs. And luckily, I found a very simple instruction at kubiertos.com. Thank God for the internet! LOL.
Since I have a kitchen allergy (this is just my personal disease, LOL!), I tried to tell my Mom how to do it. But she keeps on asking so many times until I finally gave in an said, “Ok fine, ako na lang ang magluluto!” My Mom was extremely surprised and said, “Hindi nga, anak?!?! Sa wakas!!!” I think with my Mom’s statement, you know have a much clearer idea how allergic I am to work in the kitchen. LOL.
According to kubiertos.com, here are the main ingredients:
1 kilo large shrimps/prawns
2 cups of Royal Tru Orange soda (or something similar)
pinch of salt
1/2 cup of butter
4 cloves of garlic, minced
Of course, I replaced shrimps with crab… and also orange soda with white soda. Wala kasing Royal Tru Orange sa tindahang malapit sa amin *sad*
So, here are the illustrations of my ingredients:

Here’s the procedure how to cook:
Place the shrimps in a large wok in medium to high heat. Sprinkle with salt and pour soda over the shrimps until all are slightly covered in the liquid. Simmer for 4 to 5 minutes or until the shrimps turn orange. Do not overcook the shrimp as this will make the shell very difficult to remove. Remove the shrimps from the wok and set aside.
In a separate pan, saute the garlic in butter. Once the juices of the garlic mix with the butter, pour in the remains of the soda (now flavored with shrimp juice) into the pan. Reduce until desired consistency. Pour over the cooked shrimps. Served with steaming white rice.
And I did as instructed:

I never thought it was such an easy thing to do. In less than 30 minutes, I was able to complete my kitchen stint. And here is my finished product:

I also prepared my fave side dish, steamed corn and carrots that is, to make our lunch more appetizing.
Ladies and gentlemen, lunch is served:

Mommy said it tasted good. Oh di ko sya pinandilatan para sabihing masarap ang luto ko ah! But hey, I share the same comment… modesty aside, masarap pala ako magluto! Pwede na ata ako mag-asawa, bwahaha! Seriously, I was happy that my Mom liked my cooking and she was able to really eat well.
So, I’m happy to say that today, I was indeed got de-virginized… I’m no longer a Kitchen Virgin… and I’m so darn proud about it!!!
Next time, I’ll try buttered shrimps! 😛

A quick peek inside my purse…
I got tagged once again… and this time, it’s from Boni. Since I don’t have much to blog about lately and seem to have troubles thinking of a new entry find it quite a fun one to do, I didn’t think twice making my own version. Besides this is really a good filler entry.
The rule is quite simple, just show the things inside my purse. I’d like to use the word “purse” because that what they use in the Western countries. *burgis aketch!!!*
Well, since I’m an office girl and a bit too lazy to change purses because when I do, I tend to forget things, in short nadidisorient ako, I normally use just 1 purse for the entire week. The only time I change purses though is when it doesn’t match my outfit. So if I’m wearing a brown outfit, I would definitely be bringing a cream or beige purse.
So, here is the usual purse I bring to work:

But I sometimes opt to use these (L to R: CMG, Fino and Lacoste Bowling Bag):

And during weekends, these are the ones I bring with me…

Ooops wait! I got carried away. This is about showcasing the contents of my purse… not my purse collection. LOL . Let’s go back to the original tag rules.
So, if you will try to have a quick peek inside my purse, here’s how I organize my things. I need to have this arrangement, otherwise I’ll get disoriented (nadiscover nyo ngayon na OC ako! hehehe!):

Let’s take a look at the contents now:

- Vanity/Toiletry Kit – every girl needs to have this.
- Sunglasses – I never leave home without it. I need this for protection from extreme sunlight because according to the opthalmologist, my eyes absorb too much light.
- Umbrella – It’s a very small one, 3 folds, so it would fit any of my purse.
- Baby Wipes – for hygiene purposes.
- Wallet – need I say more?
- Cellphone Case – inside that is my Nokia 6500S (am not sure if I got the right model name, hehehe!)
- Fan – this is a must for me, too. Ayokong naiinitan. Hehehe!
- Company ID – so goes the saying, No ID, No Entry! LOL.
- Roller Brush – I used to bring just a comb. But since I have a shorter hair now, I need this kinda brush.
- iPod Touch Case – I don’t leave home without it, too. I use my iTouch to and from work. Or sometimes at work when I need to finish urgent paperworks.
- USB – it’s really a must to bring things like these nowadays.
- Keys – apparently, this is just a bunch of keychains. The keychains outnumbered my keys at 6 to 3. Yep, I only have 3 keys: one for the house gate, one for my mobile drawer at work and one for my luggage. Minsan nagwiwish ako na sana dumami ang pinto namin para dumami din susi ko. Hehehe!
- Ballpen – this is very handy whenever there are fans asking for my autograph! Hahahaha!
For items 6 and 10, here are the contents of those cases:

If you are confused how those things fit inside that small purse… wait ’til you see the ones inside my vanity/toiletry kit. Let’s peek in deeper now:

Every single day, I bring with me toothpaste, toothbrush, oil control strips, soap, brush and blusher, eyeshadow, sanitary napkin (it’s simply a girl thing), tweezers, medical strips, alcohol, shampoo with conditioner, Body Shop shimmer lip balm (I soooo love this!), Nivea lip balm (stick version), Nivea lip gloss, lip stick, Cover Girl Stay-on Lipstick, Body Shop Gloss Fluide, liquid eyeliner, pencil eyeliner, mascara, Nivea moisture foundation, Max Factor Creme Puff Face Powder, mirror and lotion. Yeah, I know, you’d ask why I keep too many lip coloring accessories. Well, the only defense I could think of is that it depends on my mood on what to put on my lips. But most of the time, I just use that shimmering balm for a more natural look and feel. And did you notice I didn’t have any perfum or cologne inside my bag? It’s because I keep those in my drawer at work. Hehehe!
Since I want to see other people’s purses slash bags too share the fun of making this post, I hereby tag these 10 blog friends :

Paying my last respects for Her Excellency…
I never thought I’d make three entries for Her Excellency. So I guess, this is the last part of my trilogy entry regarding the passing of our former dear president, Cory Aquino.
Two days back, my Mom told me that she wanted to go to Roxas Blvd. to see Tita Cory’s transfer procession from La Salle to Manila Cathedral. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to find any companion so she missed it. But last night, I made sure that she’d be able to see and pay her last respects for the president. I accompanied her to Manila Cathedral.
It was all over the news that thousands of people spend so much time to fall in line just to get a glimpse of Tita Cory in her casket. Not to mention, the inclement weather that has been plaguing the metropolis for the past few days. But that did not deter me and my Mom to proceed to Manila’s Minor Basilica.
We left home at around 8:30 pm and had a short dinner before going there. Mommy learned from the news that the end of the line is already in somewhere in Lawton area. So dinner was really necessary for us. Kelangan may powers kami ni Mommy to sustain the ordeal of falling in line.
We reached Intramuros some minutes before 10 pm. Since I am very much familiar with the place, I decided that we enter via Round Table slash PLM entrance (my alma matter) slash Muralla corner General Luna Streets. But I got shocked as soon as were at the General Luna dungeon. Hundreds of people were lined up in front of PLM, which is some 5 to 6 blocks away from the Cathedral. We tried to trace the end of the line and followed the flock of people from behind my alma matter. We walked further… further… further and farther. The line seemed endless. Until we reached Manila Cathedral. But still it wasn’t the end of the line yet. That’s how long the line was. At some point in front of the Cathedral, we got pushed by a lot other people since there were vehicles passing through… we were pushed into the line. In short, nakasingit kami accidentally. And the rest is history, hehehe!
Rain started to fall as we all made baby steps towards our goal, inside Manila Cathedral that is. Suddenly, there was a hard downpour and everyone got wet despite the big umbrellas and thick jackets. At that moment, I was thinking of backing out and just go back home. But my mom was really serious and determined. She even said she was having fun like that. Ibang level din talaga ang nanay ko noh?!
Time passed by and the line was moving so very slowly. The inclement weather really so much of a hassle. We were all drenched with rain.
We were back in General Luna Street again, in front of PLM. The line stopped for quite a while. It was good though because we were able to see some of my choirmates who were way ahead of us. They called my mom and asked us to join them. So that’s singit number 2, hehehe! As the line moved, people became more and more aggresive and it had gone a bit chaotic. Not much of a movement as we were still in front of PLM. But it didn’t deter us from our goal. We joined the crowned and moved further and farther. Sobrang siksikan and everyone was darn wet.

Our determination got us through that chaotic scene. Through the help of some younger Cory supporters, we were able to reach San Agustin Church. It was already 2.m. We were hopeful that we still can make it to the Cathedral and have a glimpse of Tita Cory.
Thirthy minutes more and we passed through a steel fence managed and monitored by some Police Officers. Our hopes got stronger because, the officers were organizing the people in 2 straight lines. Similar to that as seen in the funeral coverage inside the church. The line smoothly flowed but the rain continued to pour and drenched us.
So, to cut the long story short, we got lucky and blessed to reach the Manila Cathedral. It was 3 a.m. when we entered the doors of the church. We had a 5-hour excruciating ordeal and we only got a glimpse of Tita Cory’s remain for less than 10 seconds. I’m glad I listened to my mom. I was able to see Her Excellency in person, for the first and the last time. I was able to touch her casket and whispher to her, “Thank you, Ma’am.”
Our 5-hour ordeal was all worth it… way worth it!
In President Cory’s burial today, I decided to stay home because I’m still tired from that excruciating-but-so-worth-it experience in Intramuros. Today, I opted be with her all throughout her last journey via the television. And just hours ago, I saw that she was laid to rest beside her loving husband, Senator Ninoy. Tita Cory’s physical journey has finally ended. And now, a new life in heaven awaits her.
God speed, Tita Cory! You will always be remembered.

Lastly, I wanna share a song composed by Fr. Manoling Francisco, S.J. which was dedicated to both Ninoy and Cory Aquino.
Tita Cory’s Cortege via Ayala Avenue
At around 10 a.m. today, we received an email from our HR Department informing us that employees are allowed to proceed to Ayala Avenue to witness the funeral procession of the late President Corazon Aquino. The cortege was expected to pass by that main street of Makati from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. And so, as an obdient employee a simple citizen who wants to pay her last respects to the president, together with my colleagues, I went to Ayala Avenue. It was nearing noontime where the sun is in its brightest, but we, along with a lot other workers in Makati, did bother the heat.
At the time we arrived, there were already a lot of people in the streets.

It was exactly 11:30 a.m. and we have been hearing updates from radios, handheld tv and cellphone calls that Tita Cory’s convoy has entered Ayala. But that was some 5 to 6 blocks away from where we were. People kept pouring in as minutes went by.

Another 30 minutes went by and still the convoy is no where to be seen. Not even advance parties. So, we opted to take the chance to get some proofs that we were really there in that momentous event. Sorry po Tita Cory, nagpictorial kami while waiting for you.

We were literally in the middle of Ayala Avenue

We waited for another hour. We heard music getting near us. A song so very familiar that would instantly remind people of the 1986 revolt. A vehicle escorted with lots of people rolled towards us made everyone sing “Magka-isa”. It was really a tear-jerking moment.
And then at exactly 1:30 p.m., the crowd got busy as Tita Cory’s remains slowly approached our location. We were lucky to have stationed in that very spot. We’ve got a closer look at her remains.

When the late president’s remains passed by, people were shouting her name “Cory! Cory!”. It was really something worth witnessing. It’s like reliving the 1986 events.
The family’s coaster immediately followed Tita Cory’s remains. There were a lot other public figures we saw. One was Dinky Soliman boarded in a coaster and shouted “Ituloy ang laban ni Cory!” Senator Drilon, on the other hand, was on a different bus who waved to the people and made the “laban” sign.
And I was so glad to be there. It was way past lunch time. Mainit. Nakakagutom. Nakakapagod tumayo at maghintay ng dalawang oras in high heels. And yet, Tita Cory’s remains passed by in less than 3 minutes. But it was all worth it. That was the least I could do for Mrs. Aquino.
Still, I don’t want to say goodbye… but say THANK YOU, MRS. PRESIDENT!

Paleta de Sangre (Palette of Blood)
As a social realist painter, I was swiftly ushered to the dramatic use of the contrast of light and shadow (chiarascurro) which was influenced by the old masters like Rembrandt, Caravaggio and our own Luna and Hidalgo. There is a subtle play of the darkest dark and the brightest bright, I guide myself with questions like “Where is the light coming from?” or “Is it a light or cool light?” It is in identifying the light source that the figures are illumited and the artist achieves ‘realism’. I want to give the feeling that if you cut the canvas with the blade it would bleed. I view my obras as ‘real’ not because of the technique but because of the reality happening in our society. “Where is my own light coming from?” “What gives me direction in spite of darkness?” “What makes me paint?” It struck me that Jesus had been painting my own portrait on the canvas of my soul, not using paint but the palette of His blood. Throught the field of art, He was introducing Himself to me. It was as if he was tryong to tell me who He really is. “Saan nagmumula ang sinag?”
