Resolutions, Plans and Wishes

January 5, 2008

I have heard a lot of people making New Year’s resolutions. I’ve even read some articles about making resolutions and how to make one’s life better. I’ve also checked other personal blogsites and read other people’s resolutions for 2008.

I’m not actually a fan of New Year’s resolutions. Honestly, I have never made a single resolution in my 31 years of existence. For me, resolutions are so much of a challenge. Keeping hard-to-achieve promises. Veering away from bad and not-so-bad habits. Trying to be good for one whole year. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! Such difficult things to do.

As always, I wanted to do things outside of the norm. So, I’m listing down my so-called resolutions. I call this, New Year’s resolutions with a twist. I thought of listing down my bad and not-so-bad habits that I intend to continue this year and the years to come. Here goes…

  • Keep drinking Coke Light for it completes my daily meals.
  • Spend more time at Starbucks for it strenghtens my bond with friends. I really enjoy my chat-over-coffee moments with friends.
  • Drink occasionally as it allows me and my friends to have wonderful nights-out.
  • Shop for things my heart desires for they give me small pleasures. I’m keeping strict watch on my bills though 🙂
  • Keep my "kulit" nature for it makes my life so overly balanced. It makes me sane and lets me veer away from that other side of life called "sadness".
  • Maintain my "sungit"  and "suplada" self for it protects me from being hurt, figuratively and literally speaking.
  • Continue being "kaladkarin" for it allows me to spend time with friends and relatives who need my presence in an instant. It’s my simple way of telling them, "I’m always here when you need me."
  • Maintain my one-of-the-boys image for it allows me to express myself more and not think of being so prim and proper.
  • Keep my "kikay" self for it enhances my feminine side. Girl din po ako paminsan-minsan 🙂 However, sometimes I feel it’s overly enhanced already that I tend to let out my "arte" self 🙂
  • Keep writing and updating my blog eventhough your inbox is already clogged up with "Winkie has updated her blog" notice. Hehehe! Sorry, I don’t really know if we can turn that blog notice off 😦
  • Keep my internet addiction for it allows me to do a lot of things from staying connected with friends to paying my bills or booking flights online to checking out the latest fashion/buzz to reading lots of stuff to downloading songs to virtually tavelling to any part of the world as all things are just a google away 🙂
  • Be more attached with my iPod for it keeps me company in my alone time.
  • Stay textually active for some obvious reasons… to keep connected with friends pa rin 🙂
  • Be more active in my mall tours… this is definitely one of the things my mom and I enjoy doing together.

Some weird resolutions there, eh?! 🙂

There are also some things that I want to accomplish, hopefully this year. And what if I can’t fulfill them? No biggie! I still have 2009, 2010, 2011 and so on. Here are my other plans though:

  • Go to my next pit stop… BOHOL! I already have a plane ticket and I’m taking Mommy with me! 🙂
  • Celebrate an out-of-town  (if not out-of-the-country) birthday, Christmas or New Year.
  • Travel! Travel! Travel!
  • Have at least one grand change in my life. I still don’t know though what aspect of my life I would like to change drastically. Residence address? Employer? Country? Or surname? What do you think is best? Hehehe!
  • Get rich… then bumili ng lalaki! Hehehe!

So, how about my wishes? I’ve just one wish this year, that is… TO GET MARRIED! O bakit? Gusto ka lang po magsout ng wedding gown at mag-walk down the aisle. Wish nga!!! Wish!!! Pwede naman di matupad yan eh! Unless, my fairy godmother would like to grant me my wish this year! 🙂 But in case this won’t happen, eh mapipictorial na lang ako sa Boracay wearing a beautiful wedding gown! O walang kokontra, ha! Hehehe!

Oh, I have another wish pa pala… but I think I’ll keep it to myself na lang. Mejo bad yung wish ko eh! 😛

How about you? Any resolutions, plans or wishes for 2008?

My 2008 Opening Salvo

January 2, 2008

Kwento lang po ako uli…

For the past weeks, I have been receiving lots of invites for another Friendster-like site. It’s called WAYN and stands for "Where Are You Now?" I’m really not interested to create another profile page online as I am contented with my Friendster account (despite the things I read from other blogsites that Friendster is obsolete now) and my recently created Multiply account (which is way too great to manage, kaso naman 5 lang friends ko dun… so sad!) Basta, I just don’t like to maintain lots of profile pages on online. That’s what I thought. But on the 5th email notice-con-invite, I finally gave in and created another account in WAYN. The site is equally easy to manage and quite fun as account owners can easily see profile viewers in real time (parang internet banking ang dating! :-)).

Anyhow, tuloy ang story… I got viewed by an old-time friend. So naisip ko, hinanap siguro ako ng bruho. His primary photo was very familiar as he emailed that to me some years ago. I instantly added my friend to my Buddy List. He posted lots and lots of comments on almost all of my Boracay photos. Some are rather flirty. I didn’t get offended though at all as I have known him to be so very praising on ladies… but he’s nowhere near bolero. He was just an average outspoken guy. And after reading his funny comments, I decided to post a message. Aaay, di ko po ide-detail yung message ko. But I told him, "kisses to my inaanak". Yes po, kumpare ko sya!

When I opened my account this morning, aba, I have 3 instant messages! Yes, pwede po mag-chat online via WAYN… mas hi-tech noh?! Hehehe! So, I opened the IM window.

He asked, "San ka sa Pinas, Winkie?"

Hala, nagtaka na ako! This guy was supposed to know where I exactly live. Pumupunta kaya sya sa house namin together with his GF some years back noh?!

Tapos, nagtanong uli, "Why did you say kisses to my inaanak?"

Hala, lalo akong nagtaka!

So I asked the guy, "Are you _ _ _ _ _?" (Ooops sorry, I will not mention names po!).

Sumagot naman at sabi, "Oh sorry, I’m _ _ _ _ _ Senior. Daddy nya ito."

Yikes! Tatay pala yun nung friend ko! Ginagamit lang yung ang profile at pictures ng anak nya!

Grabe, para akong binuhusan ng malamig na tubig! So, binalikan ko yung mga photo comments. I then felt, yung tatay ng friend ko almost hit on me! Eeewwww, kinilabutan ako! It left me laughing for quite a while though. Anyhow, I still talked to the guy… the "daddy", that is. Naging magalang naman po ako sa lolo nyo and I properly ended our conversation.

Well, sobrang liit talaga ng mundo… even on the online world! I got randomly viewed by a strange guy who didnt have the slightest idea that I am friends with his son… and worse, ninang ako ng apo nya! Hahaha!

Hay grabe, feeling ko na-Wow Mali ako! Very funny experience! Some good opening salvo for 2008, huh?!

Oh well, don’t bother checking out my profile on WAYN, I already deleted it po. 😛

HAPPY 2008 GUYS!!!

My 2007 At A Glance

December 30, 2007

In a matter of hours, year 2007 is about to end. And before it does, I’d like to share with you some very important things happened to me in the past year. Please bear with me on this one as I will just write things in random. Here goes:

  • Owned 15 pairs of havaianas sandals. Adik! :-B

Oh well, these are just tidbits of my happenings in 2007. But do you know the real highlight of my life this year? It’s you! Yes, you read it right. Your friendship is truly one of the best blessings I always thank God for. A lot of friendship has been strengthened by this Friendster thing. It made me got more and more connected to you. That simple viewing of profiles and pictures. That sending of comments, messages and smiles. And that reading of my blogs. I really do not know if I have imparted anything to you. But I hope my writings drew us closer together and gave you glimpse of my daily roller-coaster.

So as the year ends, let me thank you for the wonderful gift of friendship you have shared with me. I’m looking forward for more wonderful years of togetherness… upclose and/or online.

Hope to see you in my 2008 blogs!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU, MY DEAR FRIEND! ALL THE BEST FOR 2008!

My Best Christmas Gift

December 28, 2007

Unconditional love. Outpouring friendship. Quality time with family. These are just few of the best Christmas gifts I received this year. Eeewwww! Serious stuff!!! Di ata bagay sa akin to say those words, hehehe! Oh well, I’ll stop the crap. I’m not going to be too mushy today. This entry is simply about a special Christmas gift I received from a friend.

It was the last workday for the year 2007 today. It was the last chance for my generous friends to send over their Christmas gift for me. Hehehe! True enough, Ate Mirza, a friend from my former youth organization, texted me and asked for my office address. I instantly knew that she intended to send something for me.

Few minutes after her text message, I stepped out for a while to freshen myself up. And when I returned back to my work station, I found a nice red pouch on my desk. One of my co-workers told me that it was sent by a certain Mirza. The red pouch was somewhat see-through so I could get a glimpse of the gift inside. It was a CD. As I was taking it out from the pouch, I murmured "Oh shit!" five times. And it’s not just any other CD. It’s a Jesuit CD… a special Jesuit Christmas CD entitled "Pamaskong Tanging Yaman". For years now, I have been a fan of Jesuit music particularly Fr. Manoling Francisco’s and Arnel dC Aquino’s compositions. To give you a clearer idea of what I am talking about, the songs Sa’yo Lamang, Tanging Yaman, Panunumpa and Hindi Kita Malilimutan are just few of their compositions. Non-Catholics might not have any idea of what I am trying to tell here.

Anyhow, to continue on with my story… I again said, "Oh shit!" for the last time when I saw the actual CD. It has a hand-written dedication by Fr. Manoling himself, and it simply said,

     "Dear France,

                  God bless!

                              Fr. Manoling Francisco"

Words could not express how happy I was to see Fr. Manoling’s CD with his hand-writing on it. It was just a simple gift. A simple CD. But it was indeed the best gift I received this Christmas.

Thank you so much, Ate Mirza!

=========================================================

And to those who generously gave me gifts this Christmas, THANK YOU AS WELL! Your sweet thoughts  also made my Christmas extra special.

My Christmas Lowdown… continued!

December 26, 2007

Just moments after I posted my last entry, I received a text message from Quennie, my officemate, asking about the details why we don’t celebrate Christmas the way we used to do. Mejo bitin daw yung story. Grabe, may phone in question agad! Hehehe! Well, I was really suppose to drill down on details about us not having our "usual" Christmas but I felt it might lead to a much more dragging story so I opted to cut it short. Besides, my nose began to bleed na rin! Hahaha!

To Quennie, the answer is very simple: THINGS AREN’T THE SAME AS BEFORE. Just like any other family, life has become more and more complicated for us. A lot of things have happened. Some people left have left for various reasons. But some, like my mom and me, are still in the same house… in the same community… in the same surroundings. But there’s one thing common among us, we’ve all turned out to be busy freaks. Busy in our own lives… in the lives the we chose to live. Some are too much pre-occupied with their own family life and some are way too busy with their own careers (ehem!). Too busy that we can no longer organize something for one special ocassion. Too busy to have a small reunion on Christmas day. Besides, our family has grown bigger… too big that we can no longer gather each and every relative in a single place.

I really want to revive our old ways of celebrating Christmas so we could also pass it on to our nephews and nieces. But the sad thing is they also have their own way of celebrating it… they opt to celebrate it with their friends. Well, too bad, they’ll never get to experience the kind of Christmas that we had in the good ol’ days.

My Christmas Lowdown

December 25, 2007

After all the fuss, merry-making and months-long preparations, Christmas Day is finally over. It really amazes me how we prepare for this one special day. And after Dec. 25, kaboom! In a snap, all the excitement will just die down! So sad but true!

Years back, I was also guilty of participating in such over-rated preparations. I would buy stuff and shop for gifts as early as August or September. I would always take advantage of mall sale and buy Christmas gifts ahead of time. I would take time to do my usual "mall tour" to get that specific item Mommy would like to hang in our cute Christmas Tree (maarte ang Nanay ko, gusto kasi laging may bagong Christmas decor at color coordinated ang lahat!). But what amazes me the most is that Christmas simply ends after those traditional stuff we do like exchaging of gifts, giving out presents (and money!) to inaanaks and pamangkins (i have lots of them!), eating scrumptious food (not guilty with this one as we don’t usually prepare lots of food for Christmas… actually, no food at all since dalawa lang kami sa haus and we don’t usually have guests ;-)) and those bonding moments with family and friends.

For me though, Christmas ended yesterday before lunch time… right after my inaanaks and pamangkins grabbed their gifts under our Christmas tree. It’s fun giving out their gifts. It’s a bit of a cliche but it further confirmed that Christmas is really for kids. So for me, yesterday was just an ordinary event… a simple day that was about to end in a very simple way.

For more almost 10 years now, Dec. 25 has been routinary. I would always stay curled up in my bed and pretend sleeping til mid-morning to play tricks with my pamangkins. This is such a killer trick and pisses them off big time as they are all too eager claim their gifts from me. Then after my pamangkin-tricking activities, Mommy and I would have lunch together. Then…. nada! I will just sit, loit, wait and lay on the couch all afternoon and wait for some inaanaks and pamangkins to claim the remaining gifts under our tree. Pag di pumunta, forfeited ang gift! Reclycled na sya for next year! Hehehe!

Christmas has become boring for me over the years. I really feel that Christmas has become so overly superficial. Christmas nowadays is simply wrapped in those fancy color-coated wrappers with Santa Clause prints matched with the usual gift tags with "Season’s Greetings" text printed in red font. And what happens next after we open those gifts? It gives us a certain short-lived happiness. It makes us smile knowing that we got that one specific item that written in our Christmas wish list. But what if we don’t like the gift? It disappoints us big time. We just smile and thank the person. Then, think of recycling the gift for any upcoming event. Haaay grabe!

Call me Ms. Scrooge or The Grinch, I wouldn’t mind at all. I hate it when random kids (and even male teeners) would stop in front of our house, greet me "Merry Christmas, Ate!" and expect me to give money as they hand a box with "Merry X-mas and a Happy New Year!" written on it. Yes, I live in a  community wherein people would make Christmas a living… bluntly put, I live in the midst of "extortionists". People who think that Christmas simply revolve on receiving money and gifts even from total strangers. They have made Christmas not only superficial but meaningless as well. Well, I so sorry to tell them but I would never give in on their lame tactics! I also hate it when people say, "Pabaayan mo na, Pasko naman eh!" or "Okay lang yan, Pasko naman!" Being kind during Christmas season is like a pre-requisite. So, does this mean it’s okay to be bad or somewhat madamot if it’s not Christmas season? Tama ba understanding ko? Eh sorry talaga, that’s not how I perceive Christmas.

I wanted Christmas celebrated the way we used to do it years ago. Christmas is all about spending time with family. Having some quality and fun time together with aunts, uncles and cousins. Being with loved ones and making small histories together that are worth passing on to the next generation. Playing fun parlor games that would leave everyone rolling and laughing out loud. Having a ‘monito-monita’ in some very weird ways.

I want my Christmases celebrated that way. I want it celebrated with a blast and so much fun! I want it celebrated with loved ones. I guess, I just need to think of something else for next Christmas so as to break this my-Christmas-has-become-boring-over-the-years notion. I want my next Christmas with my mom (and hopefully with another special person) celebrated in a much different way. Besides, I am also entitled to have a special Christmas, don’t I?

=================================================================

And to that special person from my past: Belated happy birthday to you, my dearest! Hope you had a blast celebrating your special day. You are always in my thoughts. 😉

Holiday Greetings!

December 24, 2007

No special entry this time. I just wanted to greet everyone a blessed Christmas. May the sweetest love of the child Jesus in the manger be with you and your loved ones today and always.

Til next post po… so very busy with a lot of things lately. I’ll post a belated Christmas entry later.

MERRY CHRISTMAS PO… from Baby Wingkai!!!

Blast from the Past (Part 3)

December 20, 2007

Well, as the title suggests, this entry is another part of my blast-from-the-past series. Hopefully, this is the last… parang trilogy na ang dating eh! Mala-Lord of the Rings or X-men noh?! Ayoko maging Starwars saga ito! Hehehe!

Kidding aside, this blog entry was inspired by an old-friend-con-former-officemate’s comment on Multiply. Ah yes, I also have an account at multiply.com. I’m just a new member (thanks to Ate Olay, a HS schoolmate, for the invite) and I also find it fun dressing up and updating my page there. Please feel free to visit my page there… as of this writing, I only have 4 contacts. Huhuhu! Here’s my link: http://winkie24.multiply.com/

Anyhow, back to this-new-entry-was-inspired-by-a-comment issue, Jun read my last entry and commented that it could’ve been much nicer and more effective if I also posted 2002 and 2007 photos of me. This comment really made me browse my old files, from laptop folders to CD-saved files to online photo albums. I had fun browsing my old files though and seeing how I looked liked over the years… pangit as always! Hehehe! And as posted in my Multiply blog page, I decided to post a year-on-year photo to give my readers there a glimpse of me for the last 5 years.

Well, I’m posting the same set of photos here for your viewing pleasure. Here goes my so-called transformation pics… be the judge po!

Until next post po... Christmas naman ang theme! 🙂

Blast from the Past (Part 2)

December 18, 2007

I was on leave again yesterday (Monday) as I needed to consume my remaining leave credits to avoid forfieture. So, today (Tuesday) is my first day at work. As always, I would open my office email and try to check out some personal mails. Well, according to studies, it’s much more refreshing to check personal mails first before browsing those work-related stuff.

Anyhow, I would almost always receive email message from my good ‘ol friend, Jopet. His email today was interestingly entitled, “Naalala mo pa ba?”. The content was even more interesting. It put a big smile on my face as I read it. It was an email-con-survey I sent dated February 13, 2002. Here’s his exact email intro:

“Hi Bes! Hope all is well with you. I was just browsing my other email accounts and I came across this email from hotmail. Natatandaan mo pa ba ito? Please feel free to update this as I’m sure my mga nagbago na dito. Like I’m guessing your fave drink is now mocha latte from Starbucks instead of Diet Coke…”

Well, I thought of sharing it to you as well. Hope you’ll have fun reading this as much as I had fun reading through it and answering it again. Here goes….

LIVING ARRANGEMENT?

2002: I live with my mom… only the two of us in the house.

2007: Still the same. I just hope next year I have a different answer for this one. 🙂

WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW?

2002: Not much into reading books . . . probably fashion magazines!

2007: I still don’t read books. They bore me big time! I’m really more of a fashion magazine reader! 🙂

WHAT’S ON YOUR MOUSE PAD?

2002: Mouse! Kidding aside, Hello Kitty. But that does not mean I’m a Hello Kitty junkie. My boss gave it to me.

2007: I don’t have mouse pad in the office. My desk is too smooth that we don’t need mouse pads. At home, water-moist print yata! Hmp, just a cheap mouse pad I bought from Office Warehouse.

FAVORITE BOARD GAME?

2002: Used to play Scrabble. But lately, nada!

2007: Scrabble still… I don’t play game boards anymore. When I was young(er), I wanted to play Millionaire’s Game (is this the same as Monopoly?). Too bad, I never had the chance of playing that game.

FAVORITE MAGAZINE?

2002: Cosmopolitan… pero local issues lang! US issues are kinda expensive.

2007: Haaay, I’m a full-fledged Cosmo addict! I always make sure to grab a copy every month.

Eto Bes, naalala mo pa??? Mas malupit ata ito… 1998 pa! Hope this will make you smile as well. Hehehe!

Blast from the Past

December 13, 2007

I knew my weekend will be a bit stressful. I have a lot of things lined up for my entire 3-day weekend. Yes, you read it right! I had a 3-day weekend. At last, I was able to file a  vacation leave last Monday! I was able to rest from work for a little while. We all need a little break from work, don’t we? Sadly, mine was a bit toxic as I needed to do a lot of things:

  • Attend company’s Christmas party (I was forced to go, it’s appraisal time in the office :-))
  • Accompany Mommy to Divisoria (eventhough I know it would really tire me big time)
  • Decorate the house (as of this writing, no single Christmas decor is pinned on our wall as I’m too lazy to glam up the house. Christmas is nowhere in my system now. Don’t dare ask! Di ko alam kung bakit!)
  • Do the laundry (not just any laundry huh? it’s a two-week laundry! aaahhh!)
  • And of course, meet up with friends (whoever would call or text me for a long stroll in the mall or unending coffee session at Starbucks)

Last Saturday, I was taken back to the past as my company chose the bright, colorful and fun era of the 80s as its theme for our Christmas Party. Dressing up of the party was quite an easy thing as the "in" fashion nowadays is just a sleek version of the 80s. Off shoulder, big belts, colorful jelly shoes or sandals, bright colored hairbands, large dangling earrings and baston pants (they are just called skinny jeans now!). Well thank goodness the most famous acid-washed pants were not revived. Those things were just horrendous, don’t you think? Well, I was a bit young to be in fashion during the 80s but I was well aware of what was happenning around so I also consider myself as a child of the 80s.

Anyhow, the party was a bit of a blast. Lots of my co-workers opted to religiously stick with the theme. Some ladies came in their Madonna and Cindy Lauper outfits while the gents were in their Jacko get up. Well, who else are worth immitating in that era??? Some younger gents, however, chose to look like Robby Rosa and Ricky Martin wannabes who seemed more than willing to dance as soon as they hear the song "Explosion!" played on the nicely set-up mixer on the stage.  Looking at my oh-so-well glammed up co-workers really brought me back to the golden era of the 80s.

The highlight of the party though is the oh-so traditional group presentations where my ears got numbed with those Madonna and Jacko music. Not to mention the most famous Bagets theme song that would make you sing the moment you hear the lyrics,

"We used to be frightened and scared to try

Of things you don’t really understand why

We laugh for a moment and start to cry

     We were crazy…"

O, kumanta ka noh?! Hehehe!

Here’s a revelation: I was part of our group’s presentation! Yes, after 31 years, I discovered that I somehow know how to dance. Hahaha! Sumkinda kadiri lang, kasi Street Beat at Rico Mambo ang tugtog! Very Maricel Soriano, noh?! Hahaha!

Here’s another revelation: So very kapal-muks ako sa party namin... I danced all night (as always!) at pati stage eh di ko inurungan! Here are some proofs:

Welove80s_495_1                  Dancing with Naldz… this guy really knows how to groove! Grabe, ang galing sumayaw nyan!

Welove80s_507

                      Sumasayaw na, nagpapa-picture pa rin…

Welove80s_530

                             Adik! Pose agad eh! Hehehe!

Looks like I had fun, huh?!

===================================================

Speaking of past, I think I missing someone from my past. I always miss this guy during Yuletide Season… I just hope he misses me as well. Hmp, feeling senti at pa-cute! Hehehe!

===================================================

This is all for now. I will post my Divisoria stint on a separate entry. Later!
