Happy Birthday, Jaja!

April 11, 2008

This post is specially dedicated for a very fine young lady who is celebrating her birthday today… a sweet young lass who deserves all the beautiful things in life and true happiness that she truly deserves. Today is Jaja’s, my niece slash inaanak, 14th birthday.

Jaja is really very special to me as I witnessed her grow to be what she is now. I once played her nanny when I was still in college as I lived with them for a couple of months. Taking care of Jaja wasn’t an easy task. Jaja was a very delicate baby… and not to mention, heavy! (Oh crap, I know, she’d kill me as soon as reads this thing!)

Well, to give you a quick overview, here’s what she looks like when she was still a baby…

Great! She’s sooooo gonna kill me now for posting this pic! Hehehe!

Oh well, as I said, she’s grown to be a very fine young lady. But my description about her doesn’t just end there. Jaja is a very intelligent and ultra talented young lass. She has reaped lots of awards in a national competition she recently joined. She’s also musically gifted. She sings so very well that I mistakenly thought I was hearing Lea Salonga singing the famous broadway song "On My Own"… I’m not exaggerating huh? This girl really has a golden voice! (I’d like to think sa akin sya nagmana… kaso I’m sure maraming mag-aaklas! Hehehe!)

And, here’s how she looks now…

Happy birthday Jaja! Luv yah much!!!

DFA, MOA and AI

April 3, 2008

I was off from work today as I needed to have my passport renewed. My passport is about to expire this August and it can longer allow me to travel outside the country. Oh well, you’re guessing it right. Magliliwaliw na naman ang mga malilikot kong paa. I have plans of travelling sometime in June. Tsaka ko na lang sabihin kung saan ako pupunta. Hehehe!

Actually, I first tried to apply for renewal last March 18 (Holy Tuesday) hoping that I could have it processed in the old-school kind of way. You know like a walk-in applicant carrying all the required documents. Vida, my travel agent friend and high school classmate, advised me to proceed to the DFA office as early as 6 a.m. (Oh sh*t, I don’t even know how a 6 a.m. scene looks like!). But as expected, I was late. I was an hour late! I thought, "7 a.m.? Hmmnn, di pa naman siguro marami ang tao." I was wrong. Dead wrong! Pag dating ko dun kala ko may rally dahil sa dami ng tao! Hehehe! So ganun pala, I needed to fall in line para makapasok sa basketball court. Not to play basketball huh?! Hmp, corny! Hehehe! DFA is now using that place to accommodate passport applicants. Imagine, a baskeball court filled with people?! Then I thought again, "P*cha, anong oras naman kaya ako matatapos nito?" My arte-ness clouded the scene. I felt the heat and I began texting friends and calling my mom about my hard-to-imagine situation.

To cut the long story short (yeah, summarized version na yan!), I raised my white hanky and announced my admission of defeat! So, back to barracks ang drama ko!

Last Monday, I logged on to dfa.gov.ph and tried to make an appointment online. Minutes after that shooting of appointment, I got a response telling me that they have already reserved a slot for me on April 3, 11:00 am to 12:00 nn. I need not undergo that gruelling fall-in-line-to-get-in-that-basketball-court experience as I was asked to proceed to Gate 2 already. But of course, I was again late… arrived at DFA at around 11:15 am.

My DFA stint today was pretty easy and the renewal application was a bit fast. I went straight to a window (no lines, imagine that!). My documents were pre-screened and found everything in order. I was asked to go to the Auditorium for payment and encoding. So I did. The Auditorium was big… and of course, filled with people! But I had no intentions to back-out this time. So, as soon as I paid my renewal fee (I just took the 2-week processing and cost me P500, but they also offer a rush 1-week processing at P750), I started falling in line for the encoding. It was sure a very long line. But they made it comfortable for applicants as lots of seats were provided which served as "line guide" (di ko sure kung tama ang English ko dito, what I want to say is guide sa pagpila’… hehehe!). I didn’t got bored and irrirated at all though as I brought a Cosmo magazine with me. I was expecting this patiently-falling-in-line scenario to happen. Hehehe!

I find their falling-in-line-to-get-encoded system kinda weird. Encoders needed to clap 2 or 3 times (read: signal the guard) to inform that their window/table is open for a new applicant. Natawa lang ako kasi parang tumatawag sila ng kalapati everytime they clap. Hehehe! Can’t they do that electronically? I think DFA should at least look into using an electronic board similar to that of Smart’s. I guess, it will be more organized. Clients/applicants get to know what number is served and which window/table to proceed. Whachathink DFA?

As I said, it was an easy and short processing. I spent exactly 1 hour to do all those things (including processing of passport delivery via FedEx huh?!). I’ll just have to wait for another 2 weeks for my new passport to arrive.

So for those who want to renew their passport in a much easier way, it would be advisable to secure online appointment first before you head to the DFA office. Or better yet, call your friendly travel agent or the NSO Passport Assistance Hotline for a more hassle-free processing/application. It will cost you a couple of bucks more though.

**********

After DFA, I went straight to the nearest mall. Baclaran Mall, of course! Ay hindi ah! I headed to MOA for a short stroll. Today was a bit strange, I felt bored strolling in MOA.  I’m a certified mall rat so I shouldn’t be feeling that way.  Ewan ko ba, this feeling is very unusual for me. Siguro kasi walang bagong items… halos lahat eh nakita ko na! 🙂

So, I decided to watch a movie. There’s nothing exciting to watch though but I just wanted to kill time. I checked out the "Now Showing" list. I got interested in this not-so-hyped-all-star cast movie entitled "The Air I Breathe". I did put much hope on the movie as it was starred by no less than Andy Garcia, Brendan Fraser, Forest Whitaker and Kevin Bacon. But I was wrong. The movie wasn’t that good. Or I just set my expectations too high? Hmp, nasayang tuloy P160 ko! Sheesh!

**********

I had to go home before 6pm. It’s Thursday today… American Idol’s Elimination Night. Again, I was freaking nervous for David Cook (I’m really getting addicted with this guy as days pass by! Hehehe!) and hoped that he’s not in the bottom 3 tonight. He had an amazing and hot performance again last night though. But it’s anybody’s game now and his fate is in the hands of the voters (sayang talaga, I can’t vote! hehehe!). As soon as Ryan Seacrest announced that David was safe, my heartbeat went back to normal! Hehehe! OA noh?!

Sadly, Ramielle Malubay got booted out tonight. Too bad, no more Pinay representative in AI. She is a good singer but she lacks confidence. So I think it was really time for her to go. Sorry Ramielle. I’m not a big fan!

Lead Me Lord

Painting is such a waste of time, I used to say. Besides, it is not financially rewarding. So I pursued different roads, and conjured great dreams. But I did not dream with God. Then, tradegy devastated my life. I found myself in a deep and damp well; darkness covered all of me. I asked the Lord to drop a rope even if it had thorns, just for me to climb out and see the light once again. He reached out to me with paintbrush. I scribbled and dabbed some paint. There were colors. There was new life again. He led me through my healing and transformative journey. The day I started painting was the moment I started my life. – Joey Velasco

=====================================================================================================

It’s summer time once again! Time to spend some fun time under the sun with friends and loved ones. Time to savor a well-deserved vacay. Time to enjoy life!

I’m a bit happy and excited as April is my birthday month. I really don’t have much planned to celebrate my special day with a blast but I do hope for tidbits of special things to come my way… and I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Happy Sunny April to all!

I Think I’m in Love…

March 24, 2008

… with this guy…

David_cook_1

Hah! So you thought I’m going to squeal something really very personal huh?! Gotcha! Hahaha!

This is kinda true though. I always fall in love every Wednesday whenever I watch American Idol on Star World, while Thursdays make me freakin’ nervous, hoping that it’s not yet the end of the road for this hot talented dude.

Ay, sa sobrang pagka-crush ko sa mamang ito eh I found myself last night downloading these pics from AI.com:

The first hot performance on the AI stage…

The Ultimate Hot Rocker…

The Sexy Singer…

Simply yummy (hehehe!)… just look at those eyes!

David6

One sizzling hot performer…

I guess, by now you already know who I am betting for to win this year’s AI. This guy’s got talent! Singer. Performer. Musician. Oh well, sayang I can’t vote for him. I-aalay ko pa naman sana sa kanya ang lahat ng text credits ko! Hehehe!

How about you, who will you vote for to be the next AI?

Promise, the next entry I’ll post using the same title eh totoo na! Eh Kelan naman kaya yun?! Hehehe!

Happy Easter everyone! (So very related si David Cook sa Easter noh?! Hehehe!)

We Are The Reason

March 20, 2008

I am not a preacher nor a catechist so I don’t feel I am not fit to post an entry about lent. I just want to share to you a song very close to my heart. This song has been a part of my life… of my then-religious life when I was still very active in my youth ministry. This song encompasses the true meaning of lent. Reminding us the real reason of the season. Reminding us all why our Lord Jesus Christ chose the cross to save us from our sins.

I’d like to quote a very nice comment I came across in youtube as I was browsing this inspiring video: "It wasn’t nails that killed Him on the cross… but His love for you and me…"

Have a very meaningful lent, my dear friends! Let us spend some solemn moments with God. May God bless us all!

">The Passion of the Christ

We Are The Reason

Written and Sung by David Meece

As little children we would dream of Christmas morn
And all the gifts and toys we knew we’d find
But we never realized a baby born one blessed night
Gave us the greatest gift of our lives

And we were the reason that He gave His life
We were the reason that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

As the years went by we learned more about gifts
And giving of ourselves and what that means
On a dark and cloudy day a man hung crying
in the rain
Because of love, because of love

And we are the reason that He gave His life
We are the reason that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

I finally found the reason for living
It’s in giving every part of my heart to Him
In all that I do every word that I say
I’ll be giving my all just for Him
For Him

And we are the reason that He gave His life
We are the reason that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

He is my reason to live

Havaianas vs. Spartan

March 17, 2008

I am a self-professed Havaianas addict. I don’t just own a couple of pairs… I actually stopped counting on my 14th pair. Hehehe! Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what’s on your mind now. Do I really need to have those bunch of slippers?! My answer is simple and I will have to answer righteously, "No, I don’t need that much Havaianas!"…. "but I’m just a girl… I ‘want’ to own that much flip-flops!" So, end of discussion, ok?! Hehehe!

So, when a co-worker forwarded an email entitled "Havaianas vs. Spartan", I instantly got interested and immediately clicked on the message to read what’s in it. Here’s the content of the email:

Knowing the Havaianas fanatic that I am, another co-worker emailed it again to me with this comment, "Say mo? Kaya ba ng mga Havaianas mo yan? Hehehe!"

Oh well, I needed to defend my addiction and so I emailed my co-worker back with "Please see replies in red font". Here they are:

Ay, I don’t play piko anymore.

   – Mainam na pambato sa picha o shuttlecock na sumabit sa puno.

Ooops, I only play badminton inside air-conditioned courts.

   – Mainam na pangkulob sa pumuputok na watusi.

      Haller, watusi?! Eeewww!

   – Kapag gunupit-gupit ng pahugis na "cube" eh maaari mo nang gawing pamato sa larong Bingo na kadalasang makikita sa mga lamay ng patay.

May pa-Bingo ba sa Arlington or Funeria Paz?

But in all fairness, di ko talaga kaya ipampatay ng ipis ang Havaianas ko! Hehehe!

So What’s the Answer?

March 6, 2008

"Eat flush to my nose tree time is for the bay dead by too"

This was the first SMS message I got two mornings ago. It was from my friend and former co-worker, Roland.

I was still half asleep when I peeked in to my inbox. My eyes were actually too tired and sleepy to read the message. But when I read the message, I instantly thought, the statement was darn wrong. So I scrolled down. And there was I saw the answer. I had to scroll back up and read the message again to fully appreciate this funny SMS. As expected, I texted Roland back with this message, "Hahaha! Bwisit!"

And as expected again, I needed to make ganti. So I forwarded it to a bunch of easy-to-get-pikon and definitely-will-answer-back-to-text-message friends. And here are some of their replies:

     "Tama ung answer, Sis!"

"Ang galing Inday, kurik ang sagot!"

"Waaahhh, di ko ito alam!" (I had to explain the mechanics pa… sheesh!)

"Sensya na, mahena ako sa math. Pweyde pa sa english."

"Ano ba, pinasakit mo ulo ko ah! Bwisit ka talaga!"

… and the most classic and violent reply of all:

"@#*&$%$#^% mo, Winx! Pinag-isip mo ako!"

I’m not giving out the answer to that funny SMS. I want to challenge your thinking mind with this one. Here’s a clue, this is not a grammar trick… it’s more of a mathematical equation.

So what’s your answer?  Post it here 😉

No Greater Love

This contemporary crucifuxion depicts a crime scene which highlights a boy and a girl trying to reach Jesus and as if imitating his outstretched arms. They are offering a drink and a bundle of sampaguita, their livelihood as vendors. They are offering their lives. Crucifixion was for criminals. ‘Take up your cross’ before it took on a religious meaning, meant committing one’s self to principles and actions which will/might lead to the cross. And that was Jesus’ crime: stretching out his arms to give life and liberation to people, especially the poor.

It’s Lenten season once again, dear friends. May this season bring us more closer to God. A blessed March to all!

Saan ang Next Destination Mo?

February 27, 2008

I have been bombarded by this question for the past weeks. And whenever someone asks me, "Kelan ang next trip mo?" or "San ka this Holy Week? Boracay?", it would always put a smile on my face. Grabe ha, ano ako? Jetsetter??? Hahaha!

I never imagined people see my that way. Lakwatsera ako by heart but I don’t consider myself as jetsetter. Parang overly sosyal naman ang dating nun! Besides, I don’t normally travel in style… I just travel with so much prettiness and sexiness lang! Bwahahaha! (Kapal ng fez! :-))

Oh well, I really can’t blame my friends for thinking of me as ultra lakwatera. Mejo nagkasunod-sunod ang mga trips ko lately. Plus, my travel escapades are all over the place. Pics posted in Friendster and Multiply. Travel details blogged out on time… and in series format pa ha! And my willingness to promote all these to friends who come my way! Hehehe! Please bear with me on this. I’m really fond of telling my travel escapades and sharing my pictorial moments with ya’ all. 🙂

Frankly, I don’t have any trip/s planned yet. I’m thinking though of going out-of-town in April (yep, I really want to celebrate my special day somewhere else). Or do another roadtrip somewhere north (hopefully one of my best highschool buddies can go home to Pinas for a short vacay). But right now, I can’t really tell just yet where my next destination is. Mag-iipon muna uli ako! Hehehe!

Anyhow, I thought of sharing further my past escapades… those that are extremely special to me. Wiz na yung mga simpleng Batangas and Tagaytay trip huh?! Hehehe! Oh well, here goes…

  • Baguio City, Baguio. The not-so-far-yet-not-so-near getaway for me. I first went to the City of Pines in 1995, my college barkada’s father’s graduation treat to me (Na-gets nyo kung sino nagtreat? Hehehehe!). Sponsored fare lang ako. The rest of the gastos eh kinupit ko lang from my kuya (a.k.a. cousin) and told him that I’ll be off for a sleepover at a friend’s house in Paranaque. Salbahe ko! Liar noh?! Hehehe! The trip was fulfilling and fun though. I enjoyed the place so well and it was a very liberating experience as it was my first-ever trip after 4 gruelling years in college. I now keep on coming back to Baguio just to experience its cool atmosphere. I even travel by my lonesome self just to stroll along Session Road, experience over and over again my tunganga moments in Minesview and spend some solemn time in prayers at the Pink Sister’s Convent.
  • Puerto Princesa, Palawan. I soooooo love this place. I went to see Palawan in 1997, my first trip ever. And say nyo, this was a birthday treat from a friend! Ang taray noh?! Ang suerte ko sa libre! Hehehe! I was able to experience all my "firsts" in this trip. Ooooppss, don’t dare think of naughty thoughts huh?! Heheheh! First in almost everything. First local trip na malayo. First ferry ride. First island hopping experience. First time to wear a 2-piece swimsuit (mejo baduy nga lang yung style that time! boyleg…. eeeww!). First long vacay (7 days po kami dun). First airplane ride. And a lot more "firsts" of my life. This is definitely one of the most memorable and special trips that I will truly remember. Palawan is indeed a very nice place. Clean and peaceful. It’s definitely one of the best places I would consider settling down in my old age. (Drama! Hehehe!)
  • Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu and Davao. Dami ba? Well, this one is so very jetsetter! Hehehe! My office sent me to these places in 2002 to do some product/promo orientation in 6 branches. What’s so tiring about this trip is that I had to visit all these places/branches it in just 3 days! I travelled Monday early-morning to Bacolod, then moved to Iloilo in the afternoon. Cebu on day 2 and Davao on day 3. On the 3rd day, I was so uneasy and nauseous already. Too bad, I wasn’t able to enjoy each of these places. But I promised myself to see them again and spend sometime there someday. I’d probably spend more time in Davao. I also like this place so much. Very clean and peaceful.
  • Puerto Galera, Orriental Mindoro. I really can’t remember when I first set foot on this place. I just remember that I was with some officemates then. It was also a not-so-far-yet-not-so-near escapade for me. The nearest Boracay-like beach for me as it’s just a bus-and-boat away from Manila. I kinda liked the place a bit that I also kept coming back. Oh well, it’s the nearest place where I could display all my 2-piece swimwears. Hehehe!
  • Ilocos Province. This one is a bit recent, 2006 I guess! My farthest north so far. I went there with two of my high school buddies. It was just a simple roadtrip… as in trip-trip lang talaga! A simple day tour! Yep, you read it right… day tour! As in we arrived in Vigan at 5 a.m. Spent the entire morning going to major sites like Calle Crisologo, Baluarte, Pottery House, Bell Tower, Crisologo Museum. Then in the afternoon, off we go to Ilocos Norte to see the famous Bojeador Lighthouse and stunning Windmills. And at 8 p.m. of the same day, we all found ourselves going back to Manila. Some roadtrip there, huh?! Hehehe!
  • Hongkong, China. Ah this one wasn’t planned at all. My aunt invited my mom to go to Hongkong last Dec. 2006. Since they have a free accommodation, nagpumilit akong sumama! So sabit lang talaga ako! I paid for my fare though. Huhuhu! But the good thing is I ended up enjoying the trip! Hehehe! This is a very memorable trip for me and my mom as this is our first trip together. And say nyo, outside Pinas pa hah! Hehehe! We stayed there for 6 days and was able to spend lots of fun time in Disneyland and Ocean Park. Of course segue na rin sa Schenzen, China as it was only a train away. This is a very fulfilling trip for me as I felt Mommy trully enjoyed the place so well.
  • Boracay Island, Aklan. This too is a bit recent… and the cheapest, I suppose! My choir friends and I were able to avail of the Cebu Pacific Piso Fare and get a very afforable yet nice accommodation package (thanks to Vida!). Boracay Island is actually one of my dream escapades. Truly a place of fun, sun, and bikinis! And the sunset is so overly awesome. I really fell in love with Boracay! I plan to go back there sometime soon… hopefully with a beau already! Hehehe!
  • Panglao Island, Bohol. Aaaah, this one is the most recent. My 2008 opening salvo treat for Mommy. Our first local trip together. We were also blessed to be in the company of my officemate (Nikki) and her hubby (Danny). This trip will not be the same without them. This couple really rocks! (Oi Nikki and Danny, may bayad ‘to ha! Credit nyo na lang sa account ko! Hehehehe!) Seriously, this is an awesome and fun trip. Too much to learn about our country’s history.

Now, do you think I am a well-travelled person? I still don’t think so. There are a lot more places that I would like to see and visit like Camiguin (yep, another 2-pc moments), Batanes (mala-Lord of the Rings daw dun eh!), Zamboanga (gusto kong makakita ng vinta), Surigao (carry ko kaya magsurf?), Sagada (I want to commune with nature) and lots and lots more places here in Pinas. Not to mention other countries that I wish to see… and my top most dream is definitely Paris, France!

Long way to go. Wish I could see them all and share them with you as well.

So, til my next trip! Hehehe!

On Cheating…

February 23, 2008

I’ve just finished watching the The Tyra Show on SBN. And as always, the topic kinda tickled my interest.  I have been watching the Tyra Show for years now and I really find each and every topic interesting. It basically talks about anything under the sun. Fashion. Self-improvement. Relationship. Love. And other life situations. Today’s eposide is not much different. It tackled this one intriguing topic… CHEATING. Very interesting huh?!

So why did this episode got me glued on the boob tube? Did I get cheated in the past? Or I was the cheat? I’m neither telling you the answer nor confirming anything. (Hah! Very showbiz statement eh! :-))

Well, the episode just tackled the basic ways to recover from cheating. Too bad, it did not cover the most important part. The root of it all. The mother question of all questions… WHY DOES A LOVER CHEAT? Oh well, I guess that can be discussed in a separate eposide.

Anyhow, according to the show, here are the top 4 ways to recover from cheating:

  • Deny It. Most people undergo this lame stage. And most of them tend to use this tactic to pretend that nothing is wrong with the relationship. Of course, we all want to save our relationship, don’t we? So the persons being cheated on have the tendency to the tell their all-knowing friends that that full-knowledge-about-the-philandering-BF/GF isn’t true at all and that the current beau is a completely trustworthy person. But deep down inside, their hearts are breaking big time… and think that denial is the best thing to do to safe the relationship. (Hah, some martyr tactic! Not for me!)
  • Forgive him/her. This is actually 2 notches level after the "Deny It" stage. Of course, one has to surpass the "Know It" or "Accept It" stage before getting into the "Forgive Him/Her" stage. Ah yes, you read it right. There’s a "her" option. Cheating nowadays is not an exclusive man-thing. LOL! Forgiveness is such a hard thing to give. By forgiving a person means you are actually accepting the fact that the bastard really hurt you big time. However, forgiveness doesn’t constitute that a person can then forget whatever hurtful things his/her lover did to her/him. The trust has already been broken. So stop believing in the cliche "Forgive and Forget". Sa pelikula lang yan nina Gabby at Sharon kumita!

  • Get revenge. This one is a bit liberating. There were guests in the show who claimed that upon learning that hey-your-BF/GF-has-cheated-on-you incident, they planned get even. And guess what they did? They slept with their beau’s friend! Ooohhh, some revenge there, eh! I’m not so sure if this "revenge" thing is prevalent here in Pinas. I hear some stories though. But according to the guest themselves, revenge in that weird kind of way just gave some temporary satistfaction… that is, simply to get even! Hey, don’t give some naughty meaning on that satisfaction thing huh?! According to them, they knew it wasn’t a good thing, but it definitely is a sweet revenge. (Ooooppss, I’m not promoting this one huh?!)
  • Leave him/her. Oh well, do I really have to explain this one further? It’s obvious that this is the final verge. If after the cheating instance and couples could no longer bare to be with each other, then the answer is simple… LEAVE! Life shouldn’t be that though. If one can no longer live with a cheating person, then it’s time to move on. This, however, is only applicable to BF-GF relationship. I know for a fact that it is much harder for married couples to arrive at a decision like this as there are a lot more factors that need to be considered. And the most important of them are the kids. Tapos sunod na ang mga ari-arian! Aaaarrgghh, such complicated things to settle!

So, that was the Tyra Show’s episode in a nutshell.

Which is applicable to me then? I guess, I would stick with items 2 and 3 4. I’d rather forgive (but doesn’t necessarily mean I will forget huh?) and leave. Trust is an important thing for me.

Oh well, I’m still bugged by this question, "Why does a lover cheat?" Do you know some answers?
