November Calendar

That We May Live
I couldn’t walk. Bembem, Dodoy, Dexter, Aling Doria and Mang Joven had to carry my heavy body down the GK site where we were about to build their homes. I was handed a roller which I dipped in a bucket of peach paint. Mang Joven spoke like a sage while taking a deept sigh: “Sa bawat hagod mo ay isa nang hininga para sa amin.” [“Every paint stroke of yours is a breathe for us.”] That hit me to the core. It dawned on me how a single minute gesture can affect a fellow man. I pray I could do billions of paint strokes while I live. That moment inspired me to paint these kids carrying the body of Jesus down the tomb. So much pain, yes; but gazing heavenwards with gratitude in their eyes. “Salamat Diyos, nakapaling namin Siya, kaibigang tunay na nagbuwis para sa amin.” [“Thank you Lord, we spent time with Him, He was a true friend who offered his life for us.”] That we may live.

“Salamat Diyos, nakapaling namin Siya, kaibigang tunay na nagbuwis para sa amin.” [“Thank you Lord, we spent time with Him, He was a true friend who offered his life for us.”]
— I would also like to utter these lines today…
hmmm… didn’t know joey velasco has a calendar. would have wanted to have one, but since you posted here the november painting, i decided to email joey velasco. I bought his book hapag ng pag-asa as a gift for my sister and vowed to myself i’d read it when she’s already through. but i already forgot about it. so now when i go home, I’ll make sure to borrow it and read it.
I went to his site, (thanks for the link) and looked at the featured images of the calendar. I was especially touched by one that talks briefly about a student who used to be an atheist, but who was converted upon seeing his paintings. grabe. naluha naman ako dun. very touching.
thanks for this!
I am firm believer in God and in Jesus.
although sometimes… i play devil’s advocate and test my friends faith in what they believe in.
“What if the Bible is really just fiction? A creative work of some genius from the past.”
“What if there really is a God but it is not who we are worshipping now?”
“Do you belive that there are “living” things out there in the universe besides us? If there are, then did God also send a “Jesus” in their world, in their form to promote the word of God?”
“If God is fair, how do you justify children born in families with no food to eat. children starving to death. While there are children born with everything they need and more.”
*I do believe in God. I have my FAITH. and if your faith can be shaken by questions like these, then your faith is not strong enough.=)
