The dirty hands of poor children are not just after the coins in our pockets. They bless us, too. Through them, God paints colors on our monchromatic charity. Love is not a bending toward the less fortunate below from a priveleged position, nor is its a gesture of sympathy on those who fail to make the upward pull. On the contrary, compassion is building a home with people who suffer. God mixes His mysterious colors through us and inextricably intertwines us to Him. These impoverished children are with us to help us, to mentor us. With their tiny hands they lighten the heavy load on our shoulder.

What a very touching scene–small children helping Jesus carry His cross. In today’s world, when many of our children carry their own crosses, I hope we all can help carry their crosses for them.
