So What’s the Code?

June 3, 2008

I really don’t have anything worthy to write about as I have been a bit pre-occupied with my upcoming out-of-the-country trip. Yep, my little naughty traveling feet will strike again. Will tell you about it later.

I have been out of the blog loop for almost two weeks now. My David Cook entry has been in my main page for quite a while and I think it’s about time to end the fuzz about DC as he is now dating a co-American Idol alumni by the name of Kim Cadwell. Oh DC, it really hurts me big time… but you will always be here in my heart. Asus, may ganung statement talaga! Hahaha!

Anyhow, back to reality now.

An old-time close friend forwarded an email to me two Mondays ago with subject title "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?". That was the first email I opened that day. I don’t usually get hooked to forwarded problem-solving emails but this one definitely caught my attention. So, I want to share it with you as I found it so darn easy to solve.

Here are the email details slash problem-solving clues:

A man wanted to get into his work building, but hat forgotten his new code. However, he did remember five clues. These are what those clues were:

The fifth number plus the third number equals fourteen.

The fourth number is one more than the second number.

The first number is one less than twive the second number.

The second number plus the third number equals ten.

The sum of all five numbers is 30.

What were the five numbers and in what order?

So, what’s the code? Tell me your answer and let’s see if you are indeed smarter than a fifth grader.

Side comment: Why in the world didn’t he use his birthday as code so this darn man need not involve us in solving his freaking problem! Hehehe!

    Ang aking sagot ay: 74658

    Gawa tayo formula ha.
    Let’s call the 5 digits A B C D & E.

    A+B+C+D+E = 30

    A = 2B-1
    B = B
    C = 10-B
    D = B+1
    E = 14-C [Kasi E=14-(10-B)]

    Ngayon gamitin natin ang itinuro ni Mr. Kato:

    2B-1+B+10-B+B+1+4+B = 30

    4B=16 or B=4.

    Kaya naman
    A = 2B-1 = 7
    B = 4
    C = 10-B =6
    D = B+1 =5
    E = 14-(10-B)= 8

    Ang saya saya!
    Next code please. He he!

    grabe, di ko kinaya ang computation mo. sa 74568 lang eh huminto na ako. not in a million years ko naisip na may ganitong uri ng explanation. sobrang literal ata ito dun sa term na “please explain further”, hahaha!

    duda ko, absent ako nang itinuro ito nina mr. kato, ms. magsino, mr. pascual at junko the japanese! hehehe!

    and in fairness, mas mahaba ang sagot mo kesa sa blog entry ko! hahaha!
